The V International Gas Forum took place in St. Petersburg. Sergey Dolinsky, the Director General, and Yevgeny Ryabov, the Development Director of the Techno Gazohim company, have participated in the Forum. The conference "The associated petroleum gas as a source of technical gases. The issues of associated gas preparation, components separation, storage, transportation and disposal. The use of the latest scientific developments in the field of gas conversion. Chemical utilization of natural gas" was held as part of the Forum.

Gazohim Techno company presented the report named "Conversion of associated and natural gas by means of the mini-GTL™ plant" at the conference.

In the course of discussion, the impact of low oil and gas prices on the competitiveness of APG conversion industries has been discussed.

Traditional APG reinjection into the reservoir in order to raise the formation pressure and oil production is the major competitive method of rational use in the segment of remote fields. The payback of APG reinjection projects is determined by the oil cost with account of the mineral extraction tax (MET). Since MET for synthetic oil is equal to zero, taking into account the tax maneuver (transfer of fiscal burden from the export duty to MET), the APG conversion into synthetic oil is investment attractive for the oil companies. This is the reason of the interest in the developments of Gazohim Techno companies operating in Eastern Siberia. The use of reinjection into the reservoir has geological restrictions and risks related to gas springs emergence — gas breakthroughs in oil producing wells.

The direction of APG conversion into electrical energy benefits as compared to other ways of APG rational use. The number of oil fields increased, where energy delivery to consumers began to pay off. The disadvantages of electric power generation projects consist in the high sensitivity of energy-related projects to APG composition and APG production profile.

The fall in oil prices is attended by fall in gas prices. According to the expert community, the natural gas production in Russia is excessive in the short and medium terms. The interest in GTL is determined by the search for new ways of gas monetization in addition to LNG and pipeline gas.

The synthetic oil in terms of its fractional composition is essentially a semi-finished product for marginal commercial products recovery. With account of possibility of the mini-GTL™ technology application both as a solution for remote oil fields with synthetic crude oil production, and for margin commercial products recovery, low oil prices are not currently the key determinants of the GTL technology competitiveness.

Gazohim Texhno completed works for mini-GTLplants to be placed on the offshore production platform. 

Gazohim Techno company has successfully completed works under the commercial contract for the first design stage of mini-GTL™ plants to be placed on the offshore production platform. The rated APG throughput in the production peak is 200 mln m3 of gas per year. Eight mini-GTL™ production lines will be used for the conversion of the gas entire volume. In cooperation with the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Krylov State Research Center", the high-density configuration of processing equipment has been designed in order to reduce weight and size as much as possible. The production module layout has been made within the overall dimensions of 10 x 15 x 15 m.

Gazohim Techno received its first US patent #9346039  «Method for preparing refractory alloy-based polymetallic oxide catalysts for the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons into synthesis gas».

“Gazohim Techno” Presented Report at “GTL&CTL Technologies 2014” Conference 

Alexander Dergachev, Chief Engineer, presented the report “Design Solutions of Experimental-Industrial Mini-GTL Plant” at the “GTL&CTL Technologies 2014» Conference that was held by CREON company on the 27th of March, 2014.

An experimental-industrial mini-GTL plant with the nominated capacity of 10.2 mln m3/year is planned to be deployed within the gas-processing cluster being created in Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district – Yugra.

As of the date of the conference the basic design is realized and long-lead equipment is ordered: compressor equipment, desulphurization modules. The start of startup-setup operations is scheduled for the middle of 2015.

Alexander Dergachev answered questions of oil companies’ representatives concerning technical and technological solutions of the plant being designed.  

Until recently it was considered that low-tonnage methanol production is ubiquitously unprofitable. But small methanol plants proved to be effective under the conditions of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.

The actual conditions (location, feedstock, requirements for quality of products, demand for GTL products) still stay the determinative factor of success in low-tonnage gas chemistry industry. There exists no all-purpose profitability formula for such projects; joint technical and economic assessment of an extractive company together with a vendor of a technological solution is needed. The mini-GTL plant in Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district is also to have a pay-off period acceptable for potential customers. 


Report of “Gazohim Techno” at “Associated Petroleum Gas 2014” Conference: Influence of Governmental Regulation on Application of Technologies of APG Processing. 

The report of Evgeniy Ryabov, Business Development Director, at the “Associated Petroleum Gas 2014” Conference held by CREON company on the 26th of March, 2014 was dedicated to the influence of measures of the governmental regulation on practice in the application of technologies of APG processing.

It is pointed out that the existing projects on APG utilization fall into the three categories:

1)  a project is self-liquidating and improves profitability of an oil extraction project;

2) a project is not self-liquidating but an oil extraction project still stays profitable;

3) realization of an APG utilization project leads to negative profitability of an oil extraction project.

The data contained in the report give the evidence that measures for toughening sanctions for associated gas flaring are exhausted. At present, efforts of government authorities and oil-and-gas business should be focused on shifting economic efficiency of APG utilization projects of the second and third categories from negative to positive.

The hopes of oil companies for new technological solutions for APG processing are stalled on the problem of the lack of industrial-scale confirmation of new technologies. Mr. Ryabov points out that this deadlock can be broken by assignment to innovative companies sites for construction of  experimental-industrial plants according to advanced developments.

Nowadays, gas synthesis production (synthetic diesel fuel, synthetic oil) obtained with the help of modern technologies is referred to as rental raw materials with the maximum level of fiscal withdrawals being applied.

A set of measures of technical and fiscal stimulation will allow to achieve positive profitability for processing of all currently unused resources of associated petroleum gas of small and medium remote oil deposits, non-associated gas of gas-condensate fields and low-pressure natural gas.

Clusterization of APG resources is found to be a significant reserve for further development. It supposes collecting of associated gas from small and medium deposits into common infrastructure for processing and sales of products.
